POPULATION AND WORKFORCE
-Laramie area residents are above average in many ways, especially in their pursuit of education. Of residents over 25 years of age, 89.3% are high school graduates compared to 75.2% nationally; and 38.5% are college graduates compared to 20.3% nationally.

- University of Wyoming – An average of 2,300 students graduate from the university each year. Many of these students would stay in Laramie if suitable employment were available. Student enrollment in fall of 2008 at the Laramie campus was the largest freshman class ever..

EDUCATION IN LARAMIE
University of Wyoming Campus

Established in 1886, the University is the only four-year, degree-granting institution in Wyoming. UW offers 91 undergraduate degree programs, 10 pre professional options, 64 graduate programs, 25 doctoral programs and two professional degrees. The Laramie campus serves approximately 9,500 students.

Laramie County Community College/Albany County Campus
LCCC offers over 40 two-year programs in the areas of Arts & Humanities; Business & Technology; Health, Science & Agriculture; and Social Sciences.
WyoTech is nationally renowned for its programs in Automotive Technology, Diesel Technology and Collision/Refinishing Technology. In addition to these three core programs, students can enhance their education with additional training in Trim & Upholstery, Auto/Diesel Combination, Applied Service Management, Street Rod & Custom Fabrication, and Chassis Fabrication & High Performance Engines.
The Albany County School District encompasses the communities of Laramie, Centennial and Rock River. Within the district there are…

The Laramie Economic Development Corporation (LEDC) is a non-profit public/private sector group that was established in 1985. Initially, its primary mission was to recruit existing businesses from other communities; however, in 1999, the mission changed. Today the LEDC not only works to attract and retain new businesses, it also facilitates the expansion and development of existing businesses in order to achieve sustainable growth and improve the economic well being of Laramie and Albany County citizens. LEDC works closely with the city government, the Chamber of Commerce, the University of Wyoming, and Laramie County Community College. LEDC developed the partnership that would become the Laramie Beautification Committee.

STAFF
Gaye Stockman,
President & CEO

Gaye has worked in the community development and economic development profession since 1989. In May 2008, Gaye accepted the President & CEO position for the Laramie Economic Development Corporation in Laramie, WY. Before that, she held the President & CEO position for the Loveland Chamber of Commerce and Visitor Center for 5 years. Just prior to the Chamber position she held the Vice President position for the Northern Colorado Economic Development Corporation based in Larimer County and was responsible for primary business retention and expansion for the NCEDC. Before her employment in Northern Colorado, she was the Business Retention and Expansion Program Manager for the State of Wyoming for the Wyoming Business Council, based in Cheyenne, Wyoming, and Vice President of the Mesa County Economic Development Council (now the Grand Junction Economic Partnership) in Grand Junction, Colorado.
During her nineteen (19) years in community/economic development, she assisted in the relocation/expansion of several key employers in Western Colorado. She has worked with numerous existing businesses with their retention and expansion projects; and has negotiated strategic alliance contracts for statewide organizations in Wyoming.
Gaye earned the CEcD designation (Certified Economic Developer) in August of 2000 from the International Economic Development Council. She has also earned the EDFP (Economic Development Finance Professional) certification in 2002 from the National Development Council.
As a volunteer, Gaye served as the President of the Mesa County Executive Fair Board in Grand Junction, CO and has numerous times served a member of the board of directors for many volunteer boards, including the Mesa County Enterprise Zone Commission.
Gaye makes her home in Laramie, WY. She was born in Thermopolis, WY and her extended family is located throughout the state. She raised four (4) sons: Jim, a graduate from CU at Boulder and is the Director of Information Technologies for the American Motorcycle Racing Association in their MotorCross and SuperCross races division.; Jake, employed in the oil & gas industry; Nick, a graduate from UNC in Greeley employed in Michigan as a high school math teacher and football/wrestling coach; and Gary, served a tour of duty in the US Marines and is employed in the aviation industry. She is also a proud grandmother of Ellie and Aidan. Gaye calls Laramie her home and is enjoying the amazing quality of life in Albany County.

Karen Gibbons,
VP Business Development
Gibbons, a Cody, Wyoming native, comes to LEDC with a long and extensive history of working for economic development and tourism in Cody for over 30 years. She has also worked and has traveled with the Wyoming Business Council. In Cody, Karen owned and operated La Comida and Tommy Jack’s Restaurant. After selling La Comida to her daughter and son-in-law she worked for Shoshone First Bank, in Merchant Services and the Silver Buffalo Club.
Gibbons had been a member of the Park County Travel Council for 14 years, since 1991 and held the position of Chairman for 9 years. She had also been the Chairman of the Cody Economic Development Council, President of the Cody Chamber of Commerce and President of the Wyoming Lodging and Restaurant Association. She has also worked extensively for the lodging board, the Cody Economic Development Council and the Wyoming Business Council to improve the business climate in the area.
Gibbons is currently a county representative on the Albany County Tourism Board and serves as Chairman. She is also on the Laramie Mainstreet Board and serves as Treasurer and also serves as an ex-officio board member on the Laramie Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors.
Karen brings an incredible amount of practical knowledge and a wealth of contacts to Laramie and Wyoming in addition to a long time commitment to the economic welfare of the State of Wyoming .

Melissa Greer
OFFICE MANAGER
Melissa Greer has joined the team at LEDC. Melissa comes to LEDC with a strong background in business, having most recently worked with StarTek she helped launch a StarTek site in Manila, Phillipines. Melissa has a strong customer service background in addition to a wide variety of orgranizational strengthes, so she will be a perfect fit at LEDC.
With many companies looking to maximize their bottom line, Laramie is receiving a great deal of attention from all over the country. LEDC’s staff and Board has been extremely busy. Having Melissa on our team, especially with her background, makes her a great asset and will enable LEDC to continue to meet the needs of our clients and Partners without missing a beat.
